We’ve Kicked Off!
The YES Monument! Committee thanks to all who came out last night to kick off the campaign to support our NEXT MONUMENT! The Common or Garden Pub was so gracious in hosting us and preparing some great munches. Guests were overwhelmingly positive, properly curious, willing to help and entirely in agreement about the importance of a new high school for our kids, educators and community.
The energy felt great and this coalition is building! Please watch for our follow-up messages here, in our outreach emails, and on social media.
Thanks to all for being a part of this positive project for Southern Berkshire!
Just after the event, Great Barrington resident Jenny Clark prepared a letter to the editor that we would like to share:
Greetings all,
I will vote YES on November 4 for a new, beautiful high school. There is no question in my mind that we have the best design for the lowest cost. It’s essential to know this: $61 million of the cost will be paid for by the state and that money will not be offered if we choose to renovate the existing building. The state also has strict guidelines about sizes, numbers of, and kinds of educational spaces - these are all mandated (with a few smart tweaks made by the diligent committees and consultants).
I’ve attended four meetings to date and I’ve taken a tour of the current outdated and poor conditions. It will be a true mess if we don’t elect to move forward on this plan.
The committees that have met for two years to hash this out have done an incredible job, and it is now imperative that we get a YES vote on November 4. (Absentee ballots will be available.)
You will be hearing more between then and now with more specifics. Please see the informative new website: YesMonument.org
